how anti-oxidants work

Chemical that will react with cellular components so as to damage them are commonly called ‘free radicals’. ‘Anti-oxidants’ (suchly named because many – though not all – free radicals are oxygen-based molecules) are molecules which benignly react with free radicals so as to turn them into harmless molecules.

This post and my last are taken from Adaptogens, written by Winston&Maimes.

I hope to study chemistry at a four-year college beginning in the spring of 2011; I wish to study chemistry to learn how to synthesize medically effective chemicals isolated from plants so as to deliver the medicine without the side effects of the plant.
