Mulateiro and Guarana

Natives of the Amazon use mulateiro (Calycophyllum spruceanum) bark decoction to treat diabetes. They boil 1kg of bark in 10 liters of water until 4 liters remain. It is believed that if this decoction is drunk every day (about 5 ounces daily) for three consecutive months that it is a "cure" for diabetes. The bark is anti-fungal, anti-oxidant, vulnerary (wound-healing) and anti-bacterial (so take probiotics with it).

In a 1997 study guarana increased physical activity in rats, increased physical endurance under stress and improved memory with single doses as well as with chronic doses. The study revealed that a whole-seed guarana extract was more effective than a comparable dose of caffeine or ginseng extract (guarana has more caffeine than coffee but no ginsenosides). The plant was found to increase memory retention and to have an anti-amnesic effect on mice and rats.
