Tyrosine and AttentionDeficitDisorder

In a study by J. B. Diejen* cadets given tyrosine were better able to track objectives under stress. Tyrosine is the amino acid our bodies make dopamine from.

It is thought that stimulants like Ritalin are calming for some people because it makes more of the neurotransmitters dopamine and noradrenaline, a neurotransmitter our bodies make from dopamine, available which helps the brain filter out unimportant things; but stimulants like Ritalin are not always effective and have undesirable side effects. Sometimes dietary changes alone resolve ADD.
