Gift Reciprocity and Natural Reciprocity
One may feel obligated to give a gift to return a favor; but consider that those in your life complete favors to help you, a person in their life whose well-being will affect them. Consider also that you can use your resources including your situation with its net benefit from such favors to improve your ability to help others including generally improving society. Helping others improves their ability to help others including generally improving society. Because both you and the person who did you a favor live in society, improving society is likely to come back around to improve your lives.
